Intelligent communication and society: Opportunities and challenges under the COVID19
The 2021 IAMCR Regional Conference (China) with the theme "Intelligent communication and society: Opportunities and challenges under the COVID19" was held at the Hunan Institute of Science and Technology, Yue Yang, China on 11 July 2021. The conference welcomed multidisciplinary and multi-method research and discussion including computational methods, political communication, and health communication.
The event included three main sections: keynote speech, call for papers and presentation, and annual conference viewing. For the keynote speech section, famous communication professors, young scholars in early careers, and some students were invited.
The organiser, Sha Qiu, an Assistant Lecturer at the school of Journalism of the Hunan Institute of Technology, reflected on the experience:
I applied to the IAMCR No-Travel Grant and fortunately got funded and authorized to host the regional conference at the Hunan Institute of Technology and Science. To make better use of this excellent opportunity, we not only arranged faculty members and students to view the virtual 2021 IAMCR conference, but also hosted a series of local events including call for papers, student and early career panel discussion, and research seminar to deepen the participation of each attendant.
Prof.Nico Carpentier, president of IAMCR, also recorded a video introducing IAMCR and providing details about the main conference.
Faculty and students of the Hunan Institute of Science and Technology benefited a lot from the symposium. We all thank IAMCR for giving us this opportunity to let us construct a connection with the world’s top association in communication area and its members. What's more, this conference attracted many News Media intention and got a lot of coverage. This has greatly enhanced the influence and popularity of our department in the field of domestic journalism and communication research, and will make it easier to carry out a number of academic activities in the future.
