Do I need a visa to visit the United Kingdom?
A valid passport is required for citizens of all countries entering the UK. Citizens of certain countries and territories may also require a visa. To find out if you need a visa and how to apply, visit this UK government site: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa We advise you to contact the British Embassy or High Commission in your country for complete and official instructions on the specific visa regulations and application procedures that apply to you. I need an official invitation letter in order to apply for a visa. How can I get one?
Once your abstract has been accepted and you need an official letter of invitiation to apply.
Whilst we will send a letter of invitation to support your visa application, it is your responsibility to apply for a visa to attend IAMCR. Further information on the standard visitor visa (this will be suitable for most visitors) can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor-visa/overview. Please note neither IAMCR nor University of Leicester are financially responsible if you are unable to obtain a visa.
Please note that you can only apply for a visa within three months of your date of arrival (i.e around April 27th if you are arriving directly to Leicester immediately before the conference) and visa applications can take around three weeks.
If you want an official letter of invitation, you must send us your full name and address, nationality, passport number, the name of your paper and the section or working group that it will be presented at (and any other info you want to have) to iamcrvisa@le.ac.uk
I need an official invitation to show to my institution and/or to support a funding request. How can I get one?
